There are a variety of different radon testing options available to Canadians.

Choosing a reliable radon test can be confusing. Our team has worked together with real estate industry regulatory and licensing organizations (such as the Real Estate Council of Alberta) to develop an international award winning course of radon education that is now a component of realtor and real estate broker licensing in a growing number of Canadian provinces. This means that many Realtors should now be able to talk about radon with you, and provide strong, scientifically-informed advice.

Information for home sellers and buyers:

  1. A real estate transaction takes place over a short period – a few days or weeks at best. Our results indicate that a REAL ESTATE TRANSACTION IS NOT SUFFICIENT TIME to perform a precise radon test. To get a reliable reading, testing for at least 90 days or more is required.
  2. If a property has a known radon level at or more than 200 Bq/m3, this needs to be disclosed to potential buyer(s) if it has not been permanently lowered through professional mitigation. As it is usually so easily and quickly fixed, HIGH RADON SHOULD NOT deter you from purchasing a house you like.
  3. If the property has already been mitigated for radon by a C-NRPP professional, this is a very good thing. Buildings that have been mitigated for radon (often having active sub-slab depressurization systems installed) typically have radon in the 0-10 Bq/m3 range, far below even most unmitigated “low” buildings. Radon mitigated properties have the HEALTHIEST POSSIBLE INDOOR AIR.
  4. In many regions, buyers look for homes with already installed radon-mitigation devices, and these are now seen as SELLING FEATURES.
